Spectrum 4 at the Muehlebach

We're doing Spectrum Fantastic Art Live again. May 22-24, 2015, in the Muehlebach tower of the Marriott hotel in downtown KC.

I love this space so much. It's old and elegant, I know that it's a big deal that presidents have stayed there and given speeches in the ballrooms, but I just love the look and vibe of the place. There are a million little nooks and crannies and stairways and old forgotten (amazingly beautiful) lobbies with historic books behind glass and paintings on the walls and impeccable tile floors and chandeliers and stuff, and you can wander around forever. There are escalators that go down into the dark and hallways with couches that face nothing. There are old timey phone booths, like you'd see reporters rush into in movies from the '40s and '50s, with the hats with "press" cards sticking out of them. I love it.

This place is historic as heck and it's awesome.

The Grand Ballroom was such a sexy space, and I love that we started the show in that hall, but the new vibe is so different and so fun. The Grand Ballroom was big and impressive and just a little bit cold. The Muehlebach is where you curl up with a drink and a circle of friends and you talk until it's way too late and you know you should go to bed but you just want to keep hanging out. Warm.

I'm super excited about 2015. Spectrum Live 3 was our best show. Definitely. I came away from it feeling like we'd done what we wanted to do really well, and that people were making connections and people were finding art to be excited about. Spectrum 4 is going to be even better.

It's hard to explain to people why you've made a change. You want to go through all the reasons because they're interesting to you, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that the change is positive. I guess that's why I have a blog. To let you see a little bit of what I like about this particular change without trying to condense it down into an easily digestible paragraph.

And also to talk about my cats.

(one of them is snoring next to me right now. the other is in the basement, for reasons that are unclear to me. he fell off a pillow earlier and it scared him, so he might be taking some time to regroup.)
